Who We Are
R.E.A2.C.H. is an athletic league that strives to redefine what a winner is by teaching our young student athletes that winner is not defined by points, but by character. We define character to be any student athlete that is Responsible, Encouraging, Aspiring, Caring, and Honoring. We are a league where athletic directors, coaches, teachers, and parents are working together to use competitive sports to help students build character. To ensure that we are intentionally and systematically guiding students athletes to develop character, we have partnered with Positive Coaching Alliance.
R.E.A2.C.H. league does not want to diminish the beauty of competitive sports, but want to make sure that it is not focusing on winning at the expense of losing the opportunity to build character via sports. So our message to our student athletes before every game is simple: “Do everything that you can to win, but not at the expense of losing character!” We do not want our students to see other school’s players as opponents only, but also as fellow athletes. With this common ground, our goal is to teach our student athletes to put their differences in religion, race, sex, and class aside in order to come together to serve the community.
To make the competitiveness among schools fair, R.E.A2.C.H. league will be mainly offered to schools with less than 400 middle school students.
At the end of the year, we hope to invite all the participant athletes to celebrate the year of competitive sports. At this celebration, trophies and medals will be presented to the schools. Each school will present the most improved player of the year trophy (chosen by the Athletic Director) and the most aspiring player of the year trophy (chosen by the peers). The most aspiring player of the year trophy goes to someone who most exemplifies the values of R.E.A2.C.H. athletic league (Responsible, Encouraging, Aspiring, Caring, and Honoring). Most of all, you can’t have a celebration without yummy food, music, and highlights!
